First published in hardcover in 1997, and in paperbook in 1999 (updated in 2002), Toxic Deception is an exposé of chemical industry practices. Dan Fagin is the co-author with Marianne Lavelle and The Center for Public Integrity.

The New York Times described it this way: “Toxic Deception shows how the industry uses campaign contributions, junkets, job offers, ‘scorched-earth’ courtroom strategies, misleading advertising and multimillion-dollar public relations campaigns to keep their products on the market no matter how great the potential dangers. It’s the story of the triumph of a special interest over the public interest.”

The book is available for purchase from Amazon.com and elsewhere.

The group Investigative Reporters and Editors named Toxic Deception a finalist for its national award for best investigative journalism book of 1997.
